Terms of Use

The rules for using TRY — for learners, and for parents and guardians of learners under 18.

The same as in the TRY app. Being reviewed before TRY launches.

Who TRY is for

TRY is a learning app for South African high-school learners in Grades 8 to 12, and for learners who have just finished school. You must be 12 years or older to use TRY. The TRY team runs the app and its pages (TRY Learning and TRY Help).

Learners aged 12 to 17

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must know that you use TRY and agree to these terms, the Privacy Policy and our use of cookies for you. By creating an account you confirm that they do. They can ask us at any time to see or delete your information.

Your account

Use your own email and keep your password to yourself. One account per person. Your name on TRY must not pretend to be someone else. TRY never asks for your password, your ID number or your bank details. Give your real date of birth: it decides what is safe for your age.

Community

When you post, answer or comment, you follow the Community Guidelines - they are part of these terms. You choose who sees each post: everyone, your grade, or your connections. What you post stays yours; you allow TRY to show it to the people you chose, for as long as it is on TRY.

What TRY may do

To keep learners safe, TRY may hold a post before others see it, remove content, and warn, suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the Community Guidelines. If something of yours is held or removed, you see a note on it.

Verified accounts and pages

A blue badge means the TRY team checked who the account is. Posts from TRY Learning and TRY Help belong to TRY, even if the team member who typed them leaves.

Places to study and bursaries

TRY shows universities, colleges and bursaries from their official websites, checked by two people. Listing is free: no place pays to be on TRY, and TRY is not part of any of them. Dates and requirements can change - always confirm on their official website before you apply. Applying happens on their site, not on TRY. Never pay anyone to apply for you.

Learning

TRY helps you practise and plan. It does not promise marks, a pass or a place at a university.

Study files

Past papers, memos, guides, textbooks and booklets belong to the Department of Basic Education, Siyavula and the other people who made them. TRY lists them, links to them and keeps some copies, so you can study. Use them for your own learning only: please do not copy, share or sell them. If a file is wrong or will not open, flag it and tell us.

Games and certificates

A certificate from TRY shows what you did in a game or challenge on TRY. It is not a school, Department or university certificate and it proves nothing about your marks.

Videos in Explore

Some lessons in Explore are YouTube videos, played in YouTube's own player. When you watch them you also agree to YouTube's Terms of Service (www.youtube.com/t/terms). TRY Learning's own videos can be saved to your phone to watch offline for your own learning only - please do not share or sell them.

Changes

When these terms change, we show you the new version in the app. Questions: ask TRY Help in the app.
