For parents and guardians

A safe study partner for your child.

TRY walks with your child from Grade 8 to life after school: real past papers, practice that shows exactly what went wrong, their APS and the courses their marks can reach, every public university and TVET college, and NSFAS and bursaries before they close. It’s free, it follows CAPS, and it’s built with their safety in mind.

Peace of mind

Built for learners — and for the people who look after them.

A safer Community

Posts are checked before others see them: our filters look for contact details and harmful words, and photos and videos are checked too. Learners are kept apart from unknown adults.

Your child is in control

They choose who sees each post, and can block, mute and report anyone. Leaderboards with friends are off unless they turn them on.

Help when it matters

TRY’s guidelines point to free, 24-hour help lines: SADAG (0800 567 567) and Childline (116). Talking about how you feel never gets a learner in trouble.

An honest AI helper

Aton says it’s an AI and that it can make mistakes. It guides and explains — it doesn’t write a learner’s homework or SBA tasks for them.

Follows CAPS

Topics, grades and paper layouts follow the CAPS curriculum. Past papers, guides and books come from the Department of Basic Education, Siyavula and other publishers.

Free, and light on data

TRY is free. Nothing big downloads unless your child taps it, and saved papers and memos open without data.

The whole journey

Everything your child needs, from Grade 8 to varsity or college.

TRY isn’t just practice. It walks with you all the way — whether you’re top of the class, struggling with a subject, or applying again next year.

See how they’re doing

Every test shows what went wrong.

After each test your child sees their mark, their level and the mistake behind every lost mark — then TRY makes a new test on exactly those mistakes. Ask them to show you their results.

  • The mark and the level (like on a report)
  • Every mistake named, with the memo
  • Their marks per term and their APS in My marks

Parents’ questions

What parents ask us.

Is TRY free?

Yes. TRY is free for learners.

What does TRY keep about my child?

Only what TRY needs to work: email, the name they choose, date of birth (for their age group), grade, subjects, their school and province if they add them, and their practice and progress. TRY never sells it and does not show adverts based on it. The full list is in the Privacy Policy.

My child is under 18. Do I need to agree?

TRY is for learners aged 12 and older. For learners under 18, a parent or guardian agrees to TRY’s terms. TRY protects their information as POPIA (South Africa’s privacy law) requires.

Can my child talk to strangers on TRY?

Community keeps learners apart from unknown adults, checks posts for contact details before others see them, and lets your child block, mute and report. Your child chooses who sees each post.

Can I see my child’s progress?

Not yet in the app — a parent view is planned. For now, your child can show you their results: each test shows the mark, the level and every mistake.

Can my child close their account?

Yes, at any time in Me > My account. Their information is then deleted, as the Privacy Policy explains.
